“We came to Chengdu wanting to see real life, not just the temples everyone tells you to visit. Walking through two totally different neighbourhoods side by side made the city click for us. My wife kept saying 'now I get it' the whole afternoon.”
“We came hungry and left stuffed and so happy. Our guide took us to stalls we never would have found on our own — tiny places with no English signs, full of locals. The dan dan noodles alone were worth booking.”
“Travelling with a 10-year-old and a 7-year-old and they were both completely hooked. The market walk was the best part for them — pointing at weird veggies, trying little snacks. Then cooking it all together at the end. Zero boredom. Zero complaining.”

“Seven was amazing! Super knowledgeable and went above and beyond. We tried so many local foods — a fantastic day.”

“Loved skipping the worst of the crowds and actually watching the pandas munch bamboo instead of just snapping one photo and leaving. One thing: the meetup instructions were a bit vague — I wished they'd just told me which gate to wait at, not just the address. Otherwise a really easy morning.”
“We came with two friends and left feeling like we'd just had dinner at our aunt's house. Real family kitchen, real Sichuan flavours, no tourist show. The grandma of the house kept laughing at our knife skills and adjusting our wok timing, and we ate way too much — mapo tofu, twice-cooked pork, a cold cucumber salad, and a soup I can't even name. We sat around their actual dining table after cooking, drank tea, and just talked. It didn't feel like a tour at all, more like being invited over. We walked back to our hotel so full we could barely move. Perfect evening.”

“Felt like a friend was showing us around. Breathtaking views to hidden gems, tunnels, metro, buses — very well planned.”

“Travelling with a 10-year-old and a 7-year-old and they were both completely hooked. The market walk was the best part for them — pointing at weird veggies, trying little snacks. Then cooking it all together at the end. Zero boredom. Zero complaining.”
“Lovely evening stroll and the river at night is way prettier than I thought it'd be. The one thing I'd change: I wish our guide had given us a quick 2-minute rundown of the route at the start, so I knew how long we'd be walking. Nice night overall though.”
“We've done the Forbidden City, we've done Tiananmen, but this is what we'll actually remember. Wandering the hutongs at dusk, popping into a grandma's courtyard, trying jianbing hot off a street cart, then sitting down for bowls of zhajiangmian at a tiny family place that's been there for thirty years. My partner kept stopping to take photos of the laundry strung between the rooftops and the old guys playing cards on stools. Our guide knew every alley and told us little stories about how the neighbourhood has changed. This is Beijing as it actually lives, not the postcard version.”
“We had one day in Chengdu and wanted to hit the highlights without being herded. Our guide built a route around what we said we cared about — food and local life, not museums. We ate, we walked, we laughed, we saw the pandas. Perfect day.”
“Big sights, but with enough context that it did not feel like a checklist.”

“Hands-on and unhurried; I still have what we made.”

“We wanted our kids to actually feel Chengdu's slow vibe instead of rushing from ticket gate to ticket gate. This did exactly that. We watched people play mahjong, sipped tea, watched the locals sing. The kids were fascinated.”
“We almost skipped the Forbidden City because we've heard it's just crowds and courtyards. Our guide changed our minds entirely. We heard actual gossip — which emperor was lazy, which concubine ran the place from behind the screens, why the roofs have so many little animal statues. Not just 'this hall was built in 1420'. We timed it around the crowds, used the quieter entrances, and our guide kept the pace easy enough that we never felt herded. By the end I actually understood the layout and the logic of it, instead of just walking through a bunch of similar courtyards. Worth every yuan.”
“I went out on my own on a whim and ended up with the best photos of my whole trip. The financial district at night is genuinely otherworldly — all that neon and glass. Our guide knew exactly where to stand for the shots.”
“This is the part of the city I would have walked past without a local.”

“We came hungry and left stuffed and so happy. Our guide took us to stalls we never would have found on our own — tiny places with no English signs, full of locals. The dan dan noodles alone were worth booking.”
“Best hotpot of our whole trip, no contest. Real Chongqing spicy broth, the kind that makes your forehead sweat. Only reason not 5 stars: I wish our guide had warned us how spicy Chongqing style really is — one of my friends couldn't handle it and ended up drinking like four Cokes.”
“I'm glad I did this as a tour because getting to the Wall on your own as a solo traveller is a hassle. Our guide handled the transport, timed us well, and the less-crowded section we went to was stunning. Took off a star because the day was long and I would've liked a little more buffer at the Summer Palace.”
“We brought the kids and they were completely transfixed by the tea house — old guys playing mahjong, groups singing Sichuan opera, people getting their ears cleaned on little stools. We sat and drank tea for an hour and nobody rushed us. That's Chengdu right there.”
“Flexible without being vague — we covered what we cared about and skipped the rest.”

“A side of the city I would not have found on a landmark tour.”

“I came in knowing nothing about thangka and left with a real appreciation for how intricate it is. Our teacher walked us through the symbolism, the pigments, the patience it takes. I even got to try painting a little bit. So calming.”
“We woke up stupid early to do this and it was 100% worth it. Watching old folks practice tai chi in perfect unison, fly their caged birds through the trees, ballroom dance in the open squares, do group exercises to tinny speakers — that's the Beijing you don't see in guidebooks. Then the Temple of Heaven itself, empty and golden in the early light, before the tour buses rolled in. My partner took a million photos. Our guide explained what everyone was actually doing and why, so we didn't just look confused. Do this early. By 10am it's a different world.”
“One day, four friends, zero plan. Our guide built us a perfect Chongqing day: the river, the old streets, the cable car, lunch at a random local spot. We didn't have to think once.”
“Excellent experience. Robert— I mean Seven — was patient and my son adored him. Smooth pick-up and drop-off.”

“Great way to get our bearings after a long flight. Slow pace, easy walk, our guide pointed out how the city actually works (spoiler: it's built on hills). Took off a star only because we'd hoped for a little more food stops — but it's a walking orientation tour, not a food tour.”
“As a solo traveller I was worried a night walk might feel awkward. It didn't. We wandered through tiny hillside lanes I never would've found alone, popped out onto a neon main street, and did it again. Felt like exploring.”
“We've seen the Bund in a hundred movies but standing there with our kids and our guide telling the real story of old Shanghai — the opium trade, the foreign concessions, the gangsters, the refugees, the way the city blew up in the 1920s — was something else. Then we ducked into the old lanes behind it, where locals still hang their laundry and ride bikes past each other. Our guide kept the stories short and dramatic so the kids actually listened. By the end we had this whole mental picture of how Shanghai grew up, instead of just a bunch of pretty buildings. Perfect combo.”
“Our kids talk about this one. We made dumplings, tried calligraphy, and sat in a real hutong courtyard like a Beijing local family. It felt like visiting a friend's grandma's house, not a tourist activity.”
“The food was what locals actually eat, not a tourist-street checklist.”

“Unhurried panda time — we actually got to watch them eat and climb, no shopping stop.”
Singapore · Jul 6, 2026
“Two of us wanted pandas, two of us wanted old Beijing. Our guide made everyone happy. Morning pandas, afternoon hutongs, and lunch at a spot we never would've found. Perfect combo.”
“We needed a break from the Shanghai buzz and this was exactly it. Two hours outside the city, the taxi pulls up and suddenly you're in a 1,700-year-old canal town — stone bridges, wooden houses leaning over the water, old ladies selling handmade dumplings from little stalls. We took a slow boat ride through the canals, wandered the narrow lanes, and sat down for a long lunch at a waterside restaurant with red bean cake and local river fish. Our guide knew where to eat without the tourist markup and where to stand for the best photos. By the time we headed back, we actually felt rested. Perfect escape from the city.”
“I had all these questions like 'what's rent actually like?', 'how much do people earn?', 'is eating out cheap for locals?'. Our guide walked us around and showed us real price tags on shops and restaurants. Fascinating. Way better than reading an article.”
“I got honest answers to questions a guidebook will not touch.”

“We loved this. Eating jianbing hot off the griddle in a hutong alley, watching locals ride by on their bikes — this is the Beijing I wanted to see. Took off a star only because we were still a bit jet-lagged and it started early. Totally worth it though.”
“We gave our guide a one-line brief: 'we like food, weird history, and don't want to be bored'. They built us an entire day around that. We ate great, saw cool stuff, and didn't once feel like we were on a conveyor belt.”
“Our kids are both into tech and they were absolutely mesmerised by Huaqiangbei. Six floors, then six more floors, of phone parts, robot dogs, weird gadgets, tiny cameras, drones, LED strips — everything. Our guide knew every alley and every level, and kept pointing out things we never would have spotted on our own: a wall of secondhand lenses, a stall that repairs any phone ever made, a shop that sells just buttons. We spent three hours there and the kids never once said they were bored. We left with a handful of weird little gadgets and a million questions. Even my wife, who doesn't care about phones, was fascinated.”
“Perfect half day. We told our guide we wanted to see a bit of everything with kids in tow, and we got exactly that. No rushed moments, no long bus rides. Kids stayed engaged the whole time.”
“Practical and specific — I left knowing how to do the small things myself.”

“The best way to feel how the city is actually put together.”
Italy · Apr 24, 2026
“We'd already seen pandas in a quick visit and this was next level — quiet morning, then out to Dujiangyan to see this 2,000-year-old water system that still works. Our guide explained it so well I actually understood the engineering.”
“As a solo traveller I was a little nervous turning up on my own, but within five minutes I felt like I was going out with a friend. We got to the pandas early, before the big tour buses rolled in, and I actually got to watch them be pandas — munching bamboo, tumbling over each other, ignoring everyone. My guide knew exactly which enclosures were quiet and when the morning feeding happens, so we spent time at the ones that mattered instead of racing between signs. I left way happier than I would have if I'd just wandered in on my own. Book it.”
“We had a ton of questions about Sichuan culture, food, and daily life, and our guide answered all of them honestly. Took off a star only because I wish we'd had more time — we could've kept talking for another hour.”
“The city makes a lot more sense after dark; our host knew exactly where to stand.”
Singapore · May 18, 2026
“We walked through a real residential neighbourhood, checked out grocery prices, saw what apartments rent for, and talked about how much locals earn. My kids were fascinated — 'wait, a bowl of noodles is THIS cheap?' Really eye-opening for them.”
“My partner and I kept having questions about Chongqing's weird multi-level geography, its food culture, and how locals actually live here. Our guide answered all of it over tea. Super relaxed, super informative.”
“We've all had 'Sichuan hotpot' back home and it is nothing like this. Nothing. Our guide picked a spot that was basically a locals-only room — red lanterns, Formica tables, the air already thick with chili oil from the table next to us. Ordered for us: a split broth, a stack of thinly sliced beef, some lotus root, duck blood, and a dipping sauce we'd never have put together ourselves. We sweated, we drank beer, we laughed, and we ate way more than we should have. Our guide walked us through what to dip in what and how long to cook each thing. Unreal. Best meal of the trip.”
“We kept guessing prices the whole trip. This walk answered everything. We saw what locals pay for hotpot, what subway costs, what a nice apartment rents for. Really interesting — Chongqing is way cheaper than Shanghai.”
“Felt like a friend showing us around rather than a scripted tour.”

“Best way to see Chengdu. Flat, scenic, locals everywhere. Book it.”
“Great half day and our guide was wonderful with the kids. Took off a star only because Chongqing is so hilly and we ended up doing more stairs than I expected — kids handled it, but I wish I'd known. Still a lovely time.”
“As a solo traveller I usually avoid big day tours because they feel cheesy. This one wasn't. We went to a quieter stretch of the Wall, not the jam-packed Badaling section, and got to climb a restored part that wasn't mobbed. Standing up there on a clear day, watching the wall snake over the mountains — I cried a little, honestly. Then the Summer Palace stop on the way back was beautiful, lakes and pavilions, and our guide kept the whole day moving without rushing us. Best day of my Beijing trip, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.”
“Chongqing is confusing enough without fighting with your phone. This session sorted out all our apps before we started exploring. We took Didi everywhere after that like pros.”
“Hongya Cave at night is even crazier in person. My partner and I just kept saying 'whoa'.”
“We knew basically nothing about Guangzhou beyond dim sum. Two hours with a local and we left understanding the food culture, the history, and why Guangzhou feels so different from the rest of China. Eye-opening.”
“We kept wondering if Guangzhou was cheaper than Shenzhen or Shanghai. This walk answered all of it. We saw real apartment prices, restaurant bills, grocery costs. Fascinating comparison.”
“We told our guide we wanted food, culture, and something the kids would enjoy. We got all three. Dim sum morning, a walk through old Guangzhou in the afternoon, and a lovely park stop. Perfect family day.”
“Great half day and our guide was super knowledgeable. Took off a star only because I wish I'd been asked more about what I actually wanted before we started — the route was nice, but not super tailored to me. Still recommend.”
“We had all the awkward questions and our local answered every single one. No script, no nonsense.”
“Book this first. Within two hours I was ordering coffee on my own like a local. Worth every yuan.”
“We arrived in Guangzhou and immediately struggled with payment and navigation. This session fixed all of it. We used every app we set up for the rest of our stay. Worth it.”
“We came for yum cha and left obsessed with Cantonese food. Our guide took us to a real dim sum place where old folks were reading the paper and drinking tea — no tourists, just locals. The har gow was insane.”
“We walked old colonial Shamian Island, wandered Xiguan's old streets, then ended up looking at the wild modern skyline across the river. Our kids loved the contrast. Really well-paced for a family.”
“Arrived panicking about payments. Left fully set up on Alipay, Didi, WeChat. Worth it.”
“I had about a hundred questions about modern Shanghai, the expat scene, how locals feel about the city, and where it's all going. Our local answered all of it over coffee. Brilliant.”
“We knew Shanghai was expensive but this walk showed us exactly how expensive. Real rent numbers, restaurant prices, transport costs. Really interesting. Took off a star only because I'd have loved to peek inside a residential complex — we stayed mostly on the main streets.”
“We wanted to eat like Shanghai locals, not tourists. Our guide took us to tiny places down alleys where the menus were all in Chinese. We ate things we can't even describe, and all of it was great. Best night in Shanghai.”
“We gave our guide one brief: 'slow pace, food, something for the kids'. We got exactly that. Morning on the Bund, lunch at a family-friendly spot, afternoon in the French Concession. Perfect day.”
“Short on time? Do this. Felt like going out with a local friend.”
“Way too early, best breakfast of the trip. Soy milk, youtiao, shengjian — all of it.”
“We arrived in Shanghai panicking about payments and translations. This session sorted it all out in under two hours. We used every app after that. Total lifesaver.”
“We did this on our anniversary and it was perfect. Cruising the river at night, watching the Bund lights, my partner beside me. Romantic as anything. Book it.”
“Beautiful area and our guide told great stories about old Shanghai. Took off a star only because the kids got a bit restless toward the end — lots of walking and history, not a lot of doing. Still a lovely walk for adults.”
“This is how real Shanghainese people live. Grandmas hanging laundry, kids chasing each other. Quiet, human.”
“Shenzhen is the most confusing city to outsiders — it's everything and nothing all at once. Two hours with a local and I finally understood what it actually is. Brilliant.”
“We kept hearing Shenzhen was cheap, then hearing it was expensive. This walk sorted it out. We saw real rent prices, food costs, transport. Fascinating — it's cheaper than Shanghai but not by as much as I thought.”
“We had one day in Shenzhen and no plan. Our guide built us a perfect day: markets, tech districts, great street food, a sunset spot. We didn't have to think once.”
“Really helpful session and our guide sorted out all my apps. Took off a star only because I was jet-lagged and a bit slow — our guide was patient, but I wish I'd been more awake. Totally on me.”
“Half day, zero stress, our kids never complained once. Perfect intro to Shenzhen.”
“Easy pace, interesting stops, family-friendly lunch. We saw the best bits without melting down.”
“We came to Shenzhen curious about this whole 'tech capital' thing. By the end of the day we actually got it — the speed, the energy, the people from everywhere. Our guide tied it all together.”
“We walked through Nantou Old Town, which is basically a village trapped inside a mega city, then up to the observation deck looking at the skyline. That contrast told the whole story of Shenzhen. Brilliant.”
“Really interesting way to spend a few hours. The contrast between the old alley neighbourhood and the fancy new apartments was way more vivid than I expected. Only reason it's not 5: I would have loved a little more time sitting in the old area instead of walking so much.”
“Short on time? This is the move. We saw the Bund, wandered the old lanes, and stopped for coffee. No wasted motion.”
“Hands down the most fun we had in Chengdu. Shopping at the market first was a total highlight — our guide haggled like a pro and we had no idea what half the veggies were. Then we cooked them. Spicy, messy, perfect.”
“We usually skip cooking classes on family trips because the kids zone out. Not this one. Our guide kept them engaged the whole time and by the end they were proud of the food they actually made. Worth it.”
“If you want to see the actual Chengdu that people live in, skip the crowded streets and rent a bike on the greenway. Our guide picked a flat, easy route and we stopped whenever I wanted to take photos. Just perfect.”
“We did this on our last night in Chengdu and it was the perfect wind-down. Just walking by the water, watching locals dance and fly their toy helicopters under the bridges. My partner kept saying how romantic it felt.”
“If you're visiting Shanghai, do this first. Our guide walked us through Alipay, WeChat, Didi, translation apps, maps. We were self-sufficient from then on.”
“We came curious about the 'tech capital' thing. By the end we actually got it.”
“Really solid day and our guide was great at reading us. Took off a star only because we ended up a little tight on time at the last stop — I would've liked 20 more minutes there. Everything else was smooth.”
“If you only do one slow thing in Chengdu, do this. We brought elderly parents and they absolutely loved watching the locals play cards and chat. Our guide slowed everything down to their pace, which we really appreciated.”
“If you love that cyberpunk Blade Runner vibe, this is your tour. I've seen a hundred night photos of Chengdu online but standing under those towers at 10pm is something else. Super easy walk, great company.”
“My wife doesn't do spicy and I do, and somehow this worked for both of us. Best date night in Chengdu.”
“I've lived in Asia for years and still learned things. We ate things I can't even name, and every single bite was good. If you're nervous about spice, tell them — they adjust. Otherwise, go wild.”
“If you want to feel the real Chengdu slow-life vibe, skip the crowded parks and do this. We brought my elderly parents and they loved watching the locals play cards and chat. Our guide slowed everything to their pace, which we really appreciated.”
“If you want a quiet, focused hour or two in Chengdu, do this. I'm not an artist at all and our teacher was so patient. The colours are incredible up close.”
“If you do one night activity in Chongqing, make it this. We walked up, walked down, crossed bridges, stared at the city lit up. Our guide had great tips for where to take photos without the crowds.”
“Three friends, two hours, a whole lot of 'wait, really?' moments. Way more interesting than another landmark. Book it.”
“Book this on day one. You'll use every app we set up for the rest of the trip.”
“Chongqing is confusing. The streets don't connect where you think they do, the elevators go between different roads, the maps lie. Having a local with us saved us from a whole day of being lost. Book this.”
“We arrived jet-lagged and just wanted something low-effort on day one. This was perfect. We walked slowly, our kids didn't complain, and by the end we actually understood how Chongqing's weird multi-level streets work.”
“Really cool walk and our guide knew all the tucked-away steps and alleys. Only reason it's 4 not 5: it was longer than I expected and I didn't bring water. Tiny thing, but.”
“Book this on your first day. It sets up everything else you'll see. Our guide was honest, funny, and didn't sugarcoat anything. Loved it.”
“My partner and I are both big eaters and this tour delivered. We tried like six things, each at a different tiny shop, and our guide told us the story behind each. Perfect balance of walking, eating, and local life.”
“Going to the Forbidden City on your own is like reading a book with no captions. Having a local with us meant we actually understood what we were looking at. Worth it just for the stories.”
“Disappointed. We booked this thinking it'd be a warm home experience with kids, and instead it felt rushed and a bit scripted. The dumpling part was fine but the calligraphy explanation was too fast for the kids and we were done in about an hour and a half, which felt short for the price.”
“Really special morning and the Temple of Heaven is gorgeous when it's quiet. Took off a star only because we'd have loved to try joining a tai chi session ourselves — it was more watching than doing. Still beautiful.”
“Four friends, one local, a whole night of eating and wandering. We tried xiaolongbao, shengjian, a hundred other things. We're still talking about it.”
“Book this. Seriously. The peace of mind is worth more than the price. We never once felt stuck after this session.”
“We had one extra day in Beijing and couldn't decide what to do. This tour basically said 'let us decide for you' — and they did. Saw pandas, walked old lanes, ate well. No regrets.”
“Travelling with teens and they had about a million questions about modern China. Our local was patient, honest, and funny. The whole family learned a ton. Way better than Wikipedia.”
“As a solo traveller thinking about moving to Asia one day, this was super useful. We looked at apartment listings, grocery prices, transportation costs. I left with a real sense of what Beijing life costs.”
“Four friends, a local, and a day well spent. We ate well, we walked interesting neighbourhoods, we saw the skyline. Perfect intro to Shenzhen.”
“Best breakfast of the trip. We tried four or five different things, all at tiny family-run spots, and our guide explained each one. My partner, who usually hates early starts, was fully awake within ten minutes.”
“Really flexible and fun. We changed our minds halfway through and our guide just rolled with it. Only reason not 5 stars: we ended up walking a lot more than expected. Not a complaint, just wish I'd worn better shoes.”
“Short on time? Do this. We had a half day before our flight and our guide made sure we hit the highlights without stress. Felt like having a local friend show you around.”
“If you're a solo traveller heading to China, book this before you do anything else. We set up all the apps together, tested them on real street corners, and I left feeling totally confident.”
“Overwhelming alone, magical with a local. Our kids are still talking about it.”
“Quiet, beautiful, and our teacher was so patient. I left actually calm.”
“If you've got a day outside Chengdu and you've done the panda thing already, do this. The water project is mind-blowing — it's still irrigating the whole region today. My partner kept saying 'wait, this is from 256 BC?'”
“Three friends, two hours, one local who just talks straight. No official script, no tourist nonsense. We asked everything from 'how spicy is actually too spicy' to 'what do locals think of the pandas'. Loved it.”
“Really interesting walk and our guide knew all the numbers. Took off a star only because I would've loved to pop into an actual apartment building complex — we mostly stayed on the street. Still good.”
“If you're a solo traveller and you don't speak Chinese, do this on day one. It takes away 80% of the stress. Our guide was patient and walked us through every app step by step.”
“We basically just sat and talked for two hours. No sightseeing, no tickets, no rushing. Just straight answers about life in Chongqing. Best two hours of our trip for understanding the city.”
“As someone thinking about living in China someday, this was super useful. We walked a local residential area and our guide gave us real numbers. Left with a much clearer picture.”
“Really helpful and our guide knew exactly what a solo traveller needs. Took off a star because I wish we'd had 30 more minutes — I still had a couple questions at the end.”
“My partner and I sat in a nice café and just talked. We asked about Cantonese food, the old trade history, life in the city. Our guide was honest, funny, and never gave us the corporate version.”
“Three friends, a walk through a real residential area, and a local who knows the numbers. We left with a totally different sense of the city than we had arriving.”
“Full day, zero stress. Our guide handled everything — transport, timing, which spots are actually worth it with kids. We came home tired but happy.”
“Solo traveller, half day, and I got exactly the Guangzhou I wanted. Our guide listened to what I cared about and built a short route around it. Perfect.”
“Really useful and our guide walked us through everything patiently. Took off a star only because the meeting spot was a little hard to find in the big mall. Once we connected, great session.”
“Four friends, dim sum marathon, no regrets. We tried more dishes than I can count and our guide ordered like a pro. Best meal in Guangzhou, hands down.”
“Guangzhou's history is way more interesting than I expected. The old trading port, the colonial buildings, the way it's grown into this mega city. Our guide tied it all together beautifully.”
“If you're a solo traveller and you're curious about Shanghai beyond the Bund, do this. Two hours of real talk, no script, no nonsense. I left with a way better feel for the city.”
“My partner and I kept guessing rent prices the whole trip. This walk gave us real numbers. Wild how much a tiny apartment costs in central Shanghai. Fascinating.”
“Really fun night and the food was excellent. Took off a star only because we walked a lot more than expected — worth it, but wear comfy shoes.”
“Full day, fully customized, and our guide was great with the kids. We didn't rush, we didn't get lost, and we ate really well. Worth every yuan.”
“Four friends, way too early, best breakfast of the trip. We ate like Shanghai locals do — standing up, hot off the street, walking as we go. Loved it.”
“Really lovely walk and our guide told great stories. Took off a star only because the Bund itself was super crowded — not the tour's fault, but I wish we'd gone even earlier.”
“As a solo traveller I loved this. We wandered lanes I never would've found on my own and our guide explained what we were looking at. Quiet, interesting, human.”
“The Shanghai skyline at night is unreal from the river. Photos don't do it justice. Our guide had us at the right spot at the right time. Lovely evening.”
“Four friends, a day trip, and we all loved it. The water town was beautiful and our guide knew where to eat without the tourist markup. Perfect escape.”
“We walked the old French Concession lanes with our kids, peeked at the old villas, stopped for coffee. Our guide made the history feel like gossip, not a lecture. Kids actually paid attention.”
“Really interesting conversation and our guide knew the city inside out. Took off a star only because I wish we'd had more time — we could've talked for hours.”
“My partner and I are both curious about what tech workers actually earn and pay in Shenzhen. This walk gave us real numbers. Wild what a small apartment costs near Nanshan.”
“Shenzhen is huge and easy to get wrong. Having a local with us meant we actually saw the parts that matter, not just the shopping malls. Great day.”
“Short on time but want a real sense of Shenzhen? Do this. Our guide figured out what the kids could handle and built a route. Perfect.”
“Book this on day one. Shenzhen is a tech city and everything runs through your phone. We sorted out Alipay, Didi, WeChat, maps, and I was self-sufficient after that. Worth it.”
“Four friends, one day, and we all left going 'wow'. Our guide's explanation of how a fishing town turned into a 17-million-person city in 40 years was fascinating. We kept interrupting with questions.”
“If your kids love tech, do this. We wandered the endless markets, our guide explained what we were looking at, and we all left buzzing. Even my wife, who doesn't care about phones, was fascinated.”
“Best decision I made in Chengdu. My guide knew exactly when the pandas are most active and took me straight to the quiet enclosures. I left way happier than I would have if I'd just wandered in on my own. Book it.”
“This ended up being our favourite thing in Chengdu. We've done the standard walking tours before and they all blur together. This one felt like we were actually peeking at how people live, not just being shown buildings.”
“Really warm experience and the food was genuinely delicious. Only small gripe: it got a little rushed toward the end because the family had another group coming. We would have loved to just sit and eat longer instead of being walked out.”
“A really lovely morning. The market part felt like a proper adventure with the kids, and the cooking was laid-back enough that nobody felt stressed. Even my mother-in-law, who's hard to impress, asked for the recipes afterwards.”
“Way better than I expected. I booked it thinking it'd be a quick loop, but we spent a few hours weaving through paths I'd never have found on my own. Stopped for iced tea by the river. 10/10 way to spend a morning.”
“So glad we did this instead of another big dinner. The city looks totally different at street level once the lights come on. Our guide was great at pointing out little details without lecturing. Easy, lovely evening.”
“Best way to see a city in one day when you're travelling with friends who all have different ideas. We got to argue about what we wanted, and our guide just rolled with it and made it work. Zero stress.”
“Really lovely afternoon and the kids were mesmerised by the mahjong players. Only small thing: I wish we'd had a little more explanation of the tea house customs, because I felt a bit like I was getting it wrong. Still a great experience.”
“Book this if you want cool photos. Book this also if you just want a nice walk after dinner. The contrast between the old streets and the mega skyscrapers is wild. I came back with like 200 pictures.”
“Four friends, one night, one massive pot of red broth. Zero regrets. We laughed, we sweated, we ate way too much. If you do one thing in Chongqing, do this.”
“Really beautiful experience and our teacher was wonderful. Took off a star only because I wish we'd had more time to actually paint — the explanation part was great but I wanted to try more hands-on. Still lovely.”
“I've seen Chongqing called 'the cyberpunk city' a hundred times online and honestly I thought it was hype. It's not. Standing across the river at night with all those stacked lights is genuinely surreal. Bring your partner.”
“We asked for a mix of sights and food and got exactly that. Our guide was chill, funny, and never rushed us. The cable car ride at golden hour was the highlight.”
“If you're landing in Chongqing and feeling a bit overwhelmed, do this first. It's like someone hands you the map of the city in your head. Our kids even paid attention, which never happens.”
“Chongqing's main spots are crowded. This tour takes you through the parts in between — the stair streets, the tiny noodle shops, the laundry hanging between buildings. That's the real Chongqing.”
“Lovely walk and the food was great. Took off a star because one of the shops was closed when we got there and we had to rearrange on the fly — no big deal, but it threw the timing off a bit.”
“We booked this because none of us wanted to wander around lost. Smart move. Our guide knew the quiet entrances, timed us around the crowds, and told us the gossipy version of imperial history. 10/10.”
“What a lovely afternoon. The dumplings we made were actually delicious, the calligraphy teacher was patient with our 8-year-old, and the courtyard itself was worth the booking. Highly recommend for families.”
“The Great Wall is one of those things everyone tells you about, but nothing prepares you for actually standing on it. Having a guide meant I didn't have to worry about trains, buses, tickets — I just showed up and enjoyed it.”
“Do this early. By the time the big tour buses rolled in we were already done and eating breakfast. Quiet temple, real local morning life, and our guide explained what everyone was actually doing. Loved it.”
“Great day overall and the pandas were obviously the highlight. Took off a star because the hutong part felt a little shorter than I'd hoped — I could've spent more time wandering there.”
“If you're the kind of traveller who gets curious about how a place actually works, this is for you. We sat in a café for two hours and just talked. I left with a much clearer picture of modern life in Beijing.”
“You don't get this on a normal tour. We wandered a residential area, popped into local convenience stores, and talked about actual numbers. Really eye-opening and way more interesting than another landmark.”
“If you want to feel like a local for a morning, do this. No crowds, no tickets, just good cheap food and real Beijing streets waking up. Loved it.”
“If you have a group of friends who all want different things, this is the way. Our guide negotiated between us, kept everyone happy, and by the end we were all texting each other about how good the day was.”
“Really nice half day and our guide was great with the kids. Took off a star only because I wish we'd had a little more time at one of the stops — we had to rush a bit. Still recommend.”
“Nobody tells you this before you land in China, but your phone is everything. This session walks you through it all. I used every single app we set up for the rest of the trip. Invaluable.”
“Such a good day out. Pandas in the morning, incredible old water engineering in the afternoon, a lovely local lunch in between. We came back exhausted but so glad we did it.”
“Book this on your first day. It'll answer the questions you've been too nervous to ask, and it makes the rest of your trip make so much more sense.”
“I travel a lot and I love understanding what daily life costs in a place. This was the best version of that I've done. We saw real price tags, talked to locals, and our guide broke it all down.”
“Super helpful and our guide was great. Took off a star because the café we met at was a little hard to find — once we were there, everything went smoothly. Just book an extra 10 minutes to find the place.”
“If you're curious about Chongqing beyond the neon photos, book this. We learned so much about why the city is built the way it is, how people navigate it, and what locals actually think of all the tourists.”
“If you've only got a half day in Chongqing, do this. Our guide figured out exactly what our kids could handle and built a route around it. We saw the best bits without melting down.”
“Book this first. You'll use the apps you set up on this walk every single day for the rest of your trip. Total game changer.”
“Really interesting conversation and our guide knew everything. Took off a star only because the café we met at was a little noisy and hard to hear each other sometimes. Otherwise great.”
“If you love the 'what does daily life cost?' question, this is for you. We walked, we looked at price tags, we talked. Way more fun than it sounds.”
“If you want a custom day in Guangzhou, this is it. We got exactly what we asked for, our kids never complained, and we ate like kings.”
“Short on time but want to see real Guangzhou? Do this. We walked, we ate, we talked, and I left feeling like I'd actually been there, not just passing through.”
“Great food, great company. Took off a star only because one of the dim sum spots was super busy and we had to wait a bit. Totally worth the wait though — the food was amazing.”
“Lovely family walk. Easy pace, interesting stops, our kids didn't complain once. The old streets felt like a different century and then the skyline hit you like a brick.”
“If you want to understand Shanghai, look at what things cost. We walked, we looked at listings in shop windows, we talked. Super eye-opening for both of us.”
“Really nice day and our guide was wonderful. Took off a star only because we ended up a little late for one of our reservations and had to rush. Otherwise smooth.”
“Best half day in Shanghai. I did this on my last day and it made me want to come back. Our guide was warm, funny, and knew everything.”
“If you want to see Shanghai wake up like a local, do this. We watched old folks do tai chi, we bought breakfast from carts, we wandered empty lanes that would be packed by noon. Magical.”
“Our kids usually zone out on walking tours. Not this one. Our guide kept the stories short and dramatic, and the contrast between the Bund and the back lanes blew them away.”
“Really special walk and our guide was great. Took off a star only because I wish we'd been able to pop into a lilong courtyard or two — we mostly stayed on the lanes. Still lovely.”
“We almost skipped this as 'too touristy'. Glad we didn't. Seeing the Pudong skyline from the water at night is one of those moments that sticks with you. Great with my partner.”
“If you've got an extra day in Shanghai, do this. The contrast between the mega city and the slow canal town is wild. We came back refreshed.”
“My favourite walk in Shanghai. The plane trees, the old villas, the quiet lanes — it feels like a different city. Our guide's stories about the old expat days were fascinating.”
“If you want to understand modern China, talk to a Shenzhen local. We sat and talked about the tech industry, the migrants, the speed of change. Eye-opening.”
“Really interesting and our guide had all the numbers. Took off a star only because I'd have loved to see inside one of the tech parks — we stayed on the streets. Still a great walk.”
“Really disappointed. We booked a family half-day and our guide seemed more interested in hitting a checklist than adjusting to the kids. One of our kids got tired and we wanted to sit, but we were rushed along. Felt transactional, not personal. Wouldn't book again.”
“As a solo traveller I was stressed about navigating Shenzhen. This session fixed all of it. We walked around and tested the apps live. Brilliant.”
“If you're even slightly curious about how Shenzhen became what it is, do this. We saw the old market streets, the new tech parks, the skyline. My partner and I talked about it for days.”
“Great walk and the contrast between old Nantou and the skyline is unreal. Took off a star only because Nantou itself is a bit rough around the edges — not the tour's fault, just wish I'd known to keep an eye on my bag.”
“Short version: book this. Long version: I've done the panda base on my own before and it's just a zoo with crowds. Having a local with me changed the whole thing — we lingered, we watched, we talked about what we were actually looking at instead of rushing from sign to sign.”
“If you've already hit the big sights and you're wondering what Chengdu is really like as a city, this is it. Our guide pointed out tiny things we never would have noticed — the way grandma sets up her stool, the prices on the little shop signs. Way more memorable than another landmark.”
“We've done cooking classes in Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico — this one is top three. It's not a sterile studio. It's someone's actual home kitchen, and they treat you like a guest, not a customer. The mapo tofu I made there was better than restaurant versions.”
“Great family activity and the kids loved every minute. Took off one star only because we finished a bit earlier than expected and ended up with a whole afternoon to kill. Still, recommend it.”
“Book this. You get exercise, you get sunshine, and you see a side of Chengdu most tourists never do. Bikes were solid, route was easy, pace was comfortable. I came back glowing.”
“You could walk this river alone, sure. But you'd miss half of what you're looking at. We got little stories about the bridges, the neighbourhoods, why everyone is out dancing at 9pm. Made the whole night click.”
“We've done the bus tour thing before and hated it. This was the opposite — just us, a guide, a plan that actually fit what we wanted, and nobody rushing us to the next selfie stop. Worth every dollar.”
“Chengdu isn't about running around. It's about sitting. This tour nails that. We sat, we drank tea, we watched old guys play Chinese chess, and nobody tried to sell us anything. A perfect family afternoon.”
“Great walk and the skyline is unreal. Took off a star because it was colder than I expected and I wish I'd been warned to bring a jacket. Totally my fault, but a heads-up at booking would've been nice.”
“Stop eating at the tourist restaurants. Just stop. This tour takes you where actual Chengdu people queue at lunchtime. We had hot pot, street skewers, and the best soy milk I've ever tasted. Ten out of ten.”
“I'm a fairly adventurous eater and even I was like 'wait, we're eating that?' — and it was delicious. Our guide was hilarious and made the whole night feel like going out with a buddy. Highly recommend.”
“Chengdu isn't about running around. It's about sitting. This walk nails that. We sat, we drank tea, we watched old guys play Chinese chess, and nobody tried to sell us anything. Perfect family afternoon.”
“Magical evening and the views are unreal. Took off one star only because it was a lot of stairs and I wish I'd known to wear proper shoes. My bad, but a heads-up would've saved me from sore feet the next day.”
“Best way to tackle Chongqing in a day. The city is basically a vertical maze and you will get confused without a local. We did not get confused once. 10/10.”
“Low-key, friendly, useful. Our guide was great with the kids and patient with all our dumb questions about why the exits go to the 12th floor. By lunch we felt like locals.”
“I did this on my last night and it was the perfect goodbye to the city. Walked up, walked down, ate a random street skewer, watched the lights. Do it before you leave.”
“If you only do one walking food tour in Beijing, make it this one. The hutongs at dusk are magical and the snacks were the best we had all trip.”
“YOU MUST do this photoshoot. Top-notch professionalism from location direction to post-edit. Preplan your wardrobe!”
